This member of the Hospitality Group of restaurants in Calgary has moved to the site of Two Penny that was one of our favourite places to eat, so it had big bowls to fill. And it did.
Yes, it has most of your East Indian favourites, but then adds the extras like chips and curry, and egg served with lime, onions, chaat masala, green chillies & Maggi's hot & sweet. And for every dish there are always the excellent chutneys to add another layer of flavour.
The setting is fascinating, earning it the best designed restaurant in Canada award. Grant wanted to give it an extra point for the bathroom walls alone. (However, this was not allowed, so he is probably going to start up a "Peeing Calgary" page on his own.)
The name, by the way, was inspired by the 2nd oldest sports club in the world, opened in 1792, and still currently operating in Kolkata, India: the Calcutta Cricket & Football Club. While the sport itself is a staple to India, it was the upbeat culture around Cricket that inspired the name. It was the excitement, the celebration, the inclusivity, and most importantly, the community. And you can actually sense that when you’re eating here.

We would suggest the best way to discover this gem is to order the Taste of Calcutta special. It may seem expensive, but it really does give an excellent overview of the menu. And for what you get, it is actually quite economical. One member of our group was contentedly full before the main dishes even arrived
