Tubby Dog

Hot Dog     Informal/ Take Out
     1022 - 17 Ave. SW 403 244-0694

We have rated Tubby Dog before, and failed it (3.5/10). But over the years, many of our friends have begged us to give it a second change. You must keep in mind it still has a great munchie following from its years in the Night Gallery. So we returned. But nonetheless we did so remembering the many hot dog vendors who have, over the years, populated Calgary streets. At any of these one could choose from a variety of grilled dogs on toasted buns with an assortment of condiments at a reasonable price. With this knowledge, we re-entered Tubby Dog, but sadly found almost the same experience as before: over–priced, fatty, boiled dogs on over-sized buns. They have even taken onion rings, one of the winners, off the menu. Even the condiments are not outstanding. For example, the sauerkraut was rather bland.  On the upside, they now have decent sized drinks answering one of our previous complaints. The fries were good. The ketchup is still excellent.
