Our bias shows here. We prefer the locally owned shops to the large there's-one-on-every-corner kind. Higher Ground is an old Calgary tradition with good coffee, sandwiches, bowls, sweets, and even breakfast, plus a wine bar as well. They also usually have water in a dish outside in the summer if your dog accompanies you on Kensington outings, or if you're too cheap to buy a coffee.

Good vegetarian selection; coffee and wine don't contain many meat products.
