We read about is place as a breakfast venue, and our suspicions are that if they had remained just that, this review would be higher. Unfortunately, they seem to have succumbed to the if-we-can-make-a-few-things-we can-make-everything syndrome. The site itself is small and cozy, but the menu has become vast and overwhelming, especially, it would seem, for the kitchen staff. They do serve the usual breakfast/brunch dishes, but then add extras ranging from tacos to pork and shrimp siomai, and burgers to sisig pork.
And the result of this over-reaching vision is that they produce a lot of things done not too well. The poutine had broth not gravy, and the smash burger looked and tasted boiled not banged on the grill and heavily browned. And though they advertised a number of milk shakes, they all seemed to be just vanilla ones, with the other flavours created by over-sweet toppings. Yes, the eggs and potatoes and toast were well done, but too many other items weren’t. The friendliness of the staff, just could not make up for this fundamental flaw.
When we arrived, there were just four others in the restaurant, but we were assured they could squeeze us in even though there were twenty more about to arrive. So we stayed and ruminated over our meal. And the others did come. But when we departed, there were only 10 minutes left until closing time, and only one or two of the new guests had received their food.
The good news is that this eatery is surrounded by a McDonalds, Tim Hortons and an A&W.
