The setting is pleasant, trendy Japanese. The servers are passionate about the food, and the food itself is creative and worthy of passion, prepared to the highest of Japanese standards. So why just an 8 rating? The price! The serving is tapas style—many small dishes. And we usually like that, especially in a new restaurant where we can try these and then make notes about which ones to stress the next time we visit. But the excellent, creative, tiny dishes simply aren’t filling enough to sustain Dawsons for long. The three in our group spent well over the $100 mark and then ended up visiting a near by fast food restaurant so as not to go home hungry. What they need to do is to recommend large bowls of rice or noodles or other hearty fillers as a base, and then ask people to add their small artisan dishes to these. They do have an excellent sake selection, by the way, if you want to forget the price altogether.
Free underground parking after 5:00 p.m.
Good vegetarian selection.
